My Teaching Philosophy:
I believe that every student deserves to have the opportunity to receive an education. Now what does that mean...it seems like it would be a pretty common sense idea; however, there are many people within the education system that think other wise. Some students sleep in class, refuse to do homework, or show up fifty percent of the time. All of these students deserve to be taught with equal vigor and love as the students that show up and are focused everyday. It could be argued that these students need our positive attitude towards education even more than their higher functioning peers. I believe that school should be a safe place for students to ask questions not only about school subjects, but about life challenges and situations as well. Teachers should be viewed as mentors and not friends or peers. You can be friendly with students, but there is a line that should not be crossed. Students need to respect us as educators because we are molding them into proper citizens that will go on to do amazing things. I also believe in teaching in differentiated teaching styles. No one style is going to be best for all students. If we pigeon hole students into taking notes and only listening to lectures rather than hands on activities and labs, then the student who can focus for fifty five minutes will be lost. I believe every child should be educated, so that when they are adults looking for opportunities they will be able to succeed.
I wanted to become a teacher because teachers growing up gave me so much that I want to continue that gift. Throughout my entire schooling career there has always been at least one teacher who taught me life lessons that I couldn't have learned anywhere else. I plan on working in education for the rest of my life. If I'm not teaching, then I will be working in education in some other capacity.
